Manoomin

“Manoomin is a species of grass, in the genus Zizania, that grows in shallow still water. In the Nishnaabe language, Manoomin means “most wonderous seed”. To the Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg, Manoomin is an incredibly sacred food and is mentioned in creation stories; there is even a moon named after Manoomin in the Nishnaabeg calendar. Manoomin is a significant part of Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg culture.” ~ Katarina Laakmann, Rice-ky Business on Pigeon Lake and Indigenous Conservation Education
